Breast augmentation – also called augmentation mammoplasty – is a surgery to enhance the size, shape, and volume of the breast using implants. It is primarily for women who hope to increase the overall size of their breasts. But there are many reasons why women opt for breast augmentation. Some of them are:
- Restore the lost fullness after pregnancy.
- To enhance the appearance of the breasts if they are too small.
- Improve self-confidence.
HOW IS IT DONE?
The surgery takes around 1-2 hours during which the patient is given local anesthesia where the patient is awake but the breast area is numb.

The surgeon makes a cut under the breast (inframammary fold) or around the areola depending on the type of implant and how much enlargement is to being done. The surgeon then places the implant, a sac-like structure filled with saline water or silicone, under the breast tissue or chest muscle. After the implants are placed, the surgeon closes the cut with sutures.

DIFFERENT WAYS TO INSERT BREAST IMPLANTS
The most common technique to place the breast implant is by making a cut on the underside of the breast (inframammary fold). The surgeon then places the implant through this opening.
